LEO Grant Program

Pursuant to MS Code Ann 45-2-1 the Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety may award grants for training or equipment for covered law enforcement officers. The grant process is outlined below.

The application period for the 2026 LEO grant is open July 1, 2026 and close July 31, 2026. The goal is to have award determinations and notifications no later than August 31, 2026.

Eligible Applicants: Law enforcement agencies of the state or any political subdivision of the state are eligible. This includes agencies from cities (ex: city police departments), counties (ex: sheriff’s offices), multi-county (ex: metro narcotics unit), the state, school districts (ex: public high schools), colleges and universities (ex: university police departments), and other state agencies (ex: municipal airport authorities). Project Time Frame: All projects are funded for one-time expenditures. Funding for continuous projects will not be considered.

Match Requirement: There is a 50% match requirement for funding. The applicant provides the upfront total cost for the project then reimbursed for 50% of the cost of the eligible project.

Grant Application Process: The grant application period begins on July 1st and closes at midnight on July 31st. Grant applications and supporting documentation shall be submitted online.

What the application should include:
• Completed online electronic grant application
• Quote(s) for proposed cost of project (valid quote within 12 months of application)
• IRS Form W-9
• State of Mississippi Supplier (Vendor) Number. Registration for a supplier (vendor) number in the State of Mississippi’s accounting system (MAGIC) may be completed using the following link: Mississippi Suppliers(Vendors) | Mississippi Department of Finance and Administration. Supplier registration instructions are also included as an attachment to this document.
If already registered as a supplier/vendor, there is no need to register again.

The window for the 2026 application is now closed.

Award Process: Notification will be made no later than August 31, 2026.

Upon approval, notification will be sent to the applicant agency indicating an award based on reimbursement of actual costs incurred and paid by the applicant agency. Once the eligible applicant purchases the training and/or equipment for the approved project, documentation of purchase shall be submitted to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety electronically (link below). Reimbursement for 50% of the project cost will then be awarded to the applicant agency.
